Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future after a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period like this with performances this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
