Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Chants About Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just half a year following starting insulting taunts aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a agreement with the second-tier strugglers until January. His lengthy spell with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.
Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead insulting songs about Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Now, the former England player will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Past Conflict Between the Striker and the Manager
The pair had history before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel too and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
