Jennifer Lawrence Says Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly regarding the Trump government, concerned it could intensify divisive discussions and deepen rifts within the nation.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains the Actress

Speaking with media, the Oscar winner commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I felt like I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on who people vote for.”

She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on a matter that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has previously been open about backing Republican and Democratic candidates throughout her life. Growing up with Republican parents in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and revealing she recognized during Obama’s administration that voting Republican was undermining her individual liberties as a woman.

Earlier Remarks

Several years ago, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency would be “the end of the world” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “as I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I trust that she will take all necessary steps to defend reproductive rights.”

Celebrity Views

Jennifer Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her opposition to Donald Trump as a returning figure, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the electoral decisions was underscored by the outcome.

“The second term seems distinct,” said the actress regarding Trump’s presidency. “As he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”

Latest Film

The actor is discussing the drama, the filmmaker’s movie in which she stars as a young mom who faces challenges with her emotional state in the countryside. During a press conference for the project in the film festival, she spoke about the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a genocide and it’s awful.”

Additional Thoughts

She continued by stating that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the discussions of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be normalised to the kids today. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”

The actor aimed to shift anger about the issue to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she remarked, in what many took to be a nod to the declaration endorsed by thousands of Hollywood professionals to avoid certain cultural organizations.

Relatable Experiences

Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in Die, My Love. While the director has disputed the narrative being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and mental illness, the actress revealed that she did relate to parts of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, shortly after production wrapped.

“I felt anxiety for my son,” she explained, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I started taking a treatment called that medicine and I continued it for a short period and it really helped.”

Film Challenges

Jennifer Lawrence also mentioned regarding the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.

“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
