A Mountain of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays
The Yuletide season provide a plethora of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the headlines: discovering surprises, feasting on holiday treats, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from snapping at relatives. It is wished you managed to accomplish all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting announcements surfaced during the break, and should you didn't see any, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest announcement, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the key visual for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now fans are thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for some time, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the release of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not been disclosed yet.
